Turn Undead bonus for HD

I'm considering letting Clerics add their Hit Dice to the 2d6 roll to see how many Undead they turn.  For example, a 6th level Cleric turns 2d6+6 Hit Dice of Undead.

What do you all think?

Given that you don't need to roll 2d6 for any undead that you can turn or destroy automatically, this would mostly be useful at low levels, when one extra turned skeleton could make a big difference.

EDIT: The above sentence is wrong.

I may be mistaken, but my reading of the Cleric's section in the ACKS core book says to roll 2d6 for automatically turned or destroyed Unead (page 21).

You're not mistaken. Wow, I misread that page to the extreme.

We all make mistakes. :}

After reading what other people have said on this site, I believe I'll let Clerics use their WIS modifier on the turn attemept and their level  can get added to the Hit Dice of Undead turned.

For what it’s worth, I don’t feel that Turn Undead needs to be any stronger. The fact that it can be used until you fail, each encounter, already makes it very strong.

If I were going to buff it in the manner you suggested, I would want to make it usable once per turn (10 minutes) at the most.

I understand your position. I guess I'm just used to sending insane amounts of Undead against the party (witness cave K in the Caves of Chaos).

I found Righteous Turning in the Proficiencies chapter. Upon reflection, I think I'll just let the characters take that Proficiency if they want better chances at turning Undead.. Perhaps it can be taken twice - the second time allows the Cleric to add half their class level, rounded up, to the HD of Undead turned.
