Frequency of Places of Power

I'm going to start incorporating Places of Power into my campaign. However, I don't quite know what I should use insofar as the frequency in which they occur. As in, odds per adventure. I'm running a sandbox game with a lot of random generation (including random dungeons), and I'd like to eventually make a random chart for such (based on frequency). But for now, just knowing the odds will suffice. All else being equal, what do you think the odds are?

The Heroic Fantasy Handbook already suggests how common they should be geographically. Does that help?

Yes, thanks, somebody just informed me about that. However, it only lists the frequency of the Elemental Places of Power. In all, I was just looking for an approximation, and it was suggested to me by an author of an Axioms article, that it's around 8%.

As a clarification:  That was 0.8%, not 8%.  Very easy to misread.

If you assume that each hex has 3 points of interest, it would come out to about 30 places of power on a regional (30 hex x 40 hex) map, or about a 2.5% chance per hex.  If you break it down into elemental and non-elemental places of power, assuming 3 PoI per hex comes out almost the same as HFH's elemental recommendations.  (To exactly match HFH's elemental recommendations, using the Wilderness Stocking percentages for place of power type, you would need to have 32.5 places of power total on the map, which would require an average of 3.25 points of interest per hex.)

Thanks for the breakdown. Most excellent. Very helpful.
