Unofficial lord of the rings

Hi!

Long time lurker, first time poster...

Autarch wrote a while ago that an unofficial lord of the rings mod was in the making? Any news or update on the mod? Or did i missunderstand and it was a personal mod for the author of the game. Because it sounded like an excellent idea!!

Yours sincerely

The Heroic Fantasy Handbook contains a bunch of rules (and optional rules) that'd be perfect for running a LOTR game.

I wonder if anyone's made a hex-ified map of Middle Earth? (Heh, "No, you can't call your domain 'New Mordor.' What would the neighbours think?")

I have the cubicle 7 lord of the rings game and their map of the wilderlands. In their game they use a 10 mile hex but the player map is hexless. Perhaps with worldographer/hexographer one could create a new 6 mile hexmap...

I bought the heroic fantasy book and it is excellent... :)

Welcome Gute!

I cannot speak for Alex, but as GMJoe suggests above, Alex and I are both using the Heroic Fantasy Handbook as the foundation for actual Middle-Earth or Middle-Earth inspired campaigns. I know Alex has shared interesting analysis of Middle-Earth on the ACKS G+ https://plus.google.com/communities/100085451926532636821 regarding undead, orcs and (if I’m not misremembering) human spellcasters. And I posted an early effort on the forum here http://autarch.co/forums/general-forums/house-rules/acks-heroic-fantasy-...

Whatever comes out of our efforts, I expect it to be more of a future development. I plan to post about my campaign, on my site http://www.bythisaxe.co/2017/03/into-vaults-we-always-wanted-to-play.html and/or here on the forum. People have different expectations of Middle-Earth roleplaying, and we may or may not hit the mark for you, so I encourage you to jump into your own campaign and share what you do.

Indeed! I spent a fair amount of time searching the internet for good maps. I’ll try to post about my experiences soon.

With the assistance of Brennall from our Discord I have turned some of the old MERP maps into ACKS regional maps. My fellowship of adventurers is currently in western Eriador, near Lond Daer.

I will be posting all sorts of LOTR-inspired content to Axioms and turn it into products on DriveThruRPG over the coming months.

MERP can get hilarious if one isn't paying attention to details in the adventures, because the dates range from 1350 Second Age (Lorien) through 3000 years of the Third Age (the Golgoroth adventures can be set in TA 1, and The Quest for Durin's Legacy from Moria is in TA 3020) and 100 years of the Fourth Age (The Closing of the Underdeeps in Moria). I think the most common time setting in MERP is TA 1640, 1300 years before The Hobbit.
