Axios domain management

When managing a domain you need to have a garrison. With population fluctuations happening each month does that mean that the make up and the amount of garrison will also change each month? What happens if you have a number of mixed troops do you need to constantly recalculate these each game month?

Your garison increases in size when you hire mercenaries or otherwise recruit people to join it, and decreases in size when they die.

Your domain's population determines the _reccomended_ and _expected_ garrison size for the domain. Whether you hire enough soldiers to match that reccomendation is up to you - but if you hire too many or too few, it'll affect domain morale rolls as described on page 132 of the ACKS core rules.

Also, if you don't hire enough soldiers, your domain is unlikely to fare well when invaded.

So the troop numbers will fluctuate each month with the population if you wish to keep the morale bonus.

The required-for-morale troop numers will fluctuate. In my experience, most PC domain holders are entirely happy to keep extra troops on the payroll even if they technically don't need them for anything.

In our current campaign (the first ACKS campaign for most of the players) our Judge has decided to use the Axios revisions for strongholds/domains rather than those in the core rules.  He gave us PDF copies of an 88-page document dated September 2016, evidently a collection of articles from Axios #3 and perhaps other issues. He said we'd use the first 30 pages and for now ignore the rest.

I'm wondering if there is an updated [corrected] version of this document.  Some of the edits needed are very minor, such as eight (8) places where the text refers to "page XX" of the ACKS core rules.   In other places there seem to be internal contradictions.  One example is the expected revenue from urban settlements.

The Collecting Revenue table at the bottom of p.27 shows that a village of 200 families will genertate 1gp per family in trade revenue (200gp/month), and that a city of 40,000 will generate 2.5gp (100,000gp/month). But a couple of pages farther down, the Villages, Towns and Cities Benchmarks table suggests that a village of 200 should bring in about 0.25gp per family (50gp, infering a proportional amount from a range of 40-62gp) and a city of 40,000 an income of 1.5gp (60,000gp -- the upper limit, so the gp value per family decreases above 40,000.)

If there is no more recent edition of this document, can someone reconcile the apparent discrepancy between these two tables for me?

Those values match what I see in version 14, which I believe is the most current.

I haven't perused the document in any detail, but at a glance it appears that the first table is showing gross trade revenue collected per family, while the second is showing net income obtained from the settlement (ie, all sources of income minus all expenses).

Edit:

Trade Revenue + Service Revenue + Tax Revenue = Gross Income.

Subtract Garrison, Liturgies, Tithes, Upkeep and Tribute to arrive at Net Income.

Thanks, I'll recheck the tables with that in mind.

And...yes, it appears I have v14.

Tangential question. I can't identify which version I have. It is the most current available from DTRPG, but I don't see a version listed anywhere.

The version numbered ones are from Patreon, they're still experimental and subject to change, so they haven't been finalized onto DTRPG yet.

Mine is a PDF given to me by our Judge.  I don't know where he got it.  The version number doesn't appear within the document, but when I scroll the mouseover the top of the screen (making the icons appear for Download, Print, etc.)  the document name on the upper left is Axioms Issue 3-5 Revised v14.

Ah. Thanks for clarifying!
