In-Character 4 Predator and Prey

Leaving the carpenter's workshop, the party heads towards the centre of the town, passing the old ruined inn and the Silver Scale establishment. Past these stands the Baron's manor, where the group turns north along the stone wall surrounding the Baron's estate. Such a large group of stangers hardly goes unnoticed, and the party sees several locals, women and children, turning to flee into houses or down streets away from the group.

The sun is angling towards the horizon, with perhaps two hours left before sunset. The weather is still clear and cool, but the breeze has died, leaving a still calm over the town.

The small cottage supposedly occupied by the elves comes into view. As when Masov, Gwydion, and Miska left it, the shutters are closed, and the door shut. There doesn't appear to be anyone about.

Aria

"Shall we knock politely or unpolitely? Or just saunter in." She winks and draws her swords.

Gwydion

“Whatever we do, we should spread out.” Gwydion then moves around the building to watch the back. If there is cover available, he steps behind it to reduce his exposure. He also welcomes anyone else who moves into a position that will provide security to his rear.

Kaul

"ill finde cover and be prepared to put an arrow to some elf if needed"

"maybe we should have some code to know when to start fighting, i propose the word Fantastic"

Aria

"Kaul, that's a fantastic idea!" She assumes blade-dance position adjacent to the door.

Andrew

Andrew readies his staff and presses his back to a wall. “Alright, I’m out of healing magic for today, so let’s all stay healthy. I really want to be able to sell that potion.”

Gwydion heads up the east side of the building to the palisade, the rear window visible from where he stands. Kaul unslings his longbow, readying an arrow in his other hand, before moving to the gap between a nearby building and tree. Aria gracefully moves up beside the door, her back against the wall, and readies her blades. Andrew hustles over to the adjacent building, close enough to render aid, if needed...

...and the rest of the party?

Masov

'Alright. Hengist, Kerrick, want to try the front door?' Masov will prep his crossbow on the other side of the door from Aria; paying particular attention to windows on the front of the edifice.

Kerrick Helmsworth

Kerrick nods and dismounts, throwing his reins over something nearby, across the street from the front door. (He wants to be able, hypothetically, to burst out the front door and run in a straight line to mount up, should that become a necessary or useful trick later.)

Readying his spear and shield, he moves up to the door and waits for Hengist before trying the knob.

Masov moves up to the building beside the front door, opposite Aria, his crossbow at the ready. Kerrick swings the reins of his steed over a low treebranch near Kaul, then walks directly to the front of the building.

...and Miska and Hengist?

Miska, lost in thought on the walk over, takes a position opposite Kaul, on the other side of the cottage, able to see towards the west side of the cottage/map. He will prepare a stone in his sling, just in case strength of arms is required before healing.

Miska moves into place, signalling his readiness with a gesture. Hengist speaks quietly to Dagmar, and the woman-at-arms follows Gwydion around the rear of the building as Hengist moves beside Kerrick and readies his spear...

Actions?

Kerrick Helmsworth

Kerrick tries the doorknob first. If not locked, he will open the door and take a quick look inside.

If it is locked, he gives it a good kicking, then look through the open door. (Kick down the door roll already included, just in case it’s relevant).

Andrew

Andrew stays quite, listening for any movement and watching the door.

Kerrick gently grasps the doorlatch, testing its movement; it stops firmly, as if locked. Releasing it just as gently, he then steps back, raises his knee and hammers his left foot into the door near the latch. The door shudders with a heavy "boom!" but does not give, holding firm as if barred...

After the thunderous noise of Kerrick's blow to the door, the instant following is dead still.

Kerrick Helmsworth

Kerrick takes a step back and looks at Hengist, holding up three fingers. He then counts down; 3, 2, 1, and follows up with another kick to the door, assuming that Hengist will figure out the secret code and assist!

(For some reason, despite the noise generated by kicking the door in the first place, he has chosen to communicate silently.)

Gwydion

Gwydion remains alert, keen to prevent any from escaping without his notice. To that end, he keeps his dagger drawn.

Aria stretches like a supple cat and twirls her blades. It'll be more fun now without surprise.

Miska concentrates on the other members of the party, checking to make sure all the ones he should be able to see, he can see.

Hengist, pleased to find himself with room for a running start, puts his shoulder into helping Kerrick.
