Basic D&D & Labyrinth Lord treasure class coversion?

Anybody have anything on this subject?

Excellent question and something I’ve been thinking about myself. I was working a monster conversion and wasn’t quite sure how to go about putting something like this together so I just sort of “eye-balled” it to keep it about right.
I’d love to hear the designers thoughts on this topic.

For the most part you can just look up the monster in ACKS and use the ACKS treasure type.
The Cook Expert set, I believe, lists the average values of treasure types and you can find a comparable average value for an ACKS treasure type.
Finally, you can multiply the monster’s XP value by 4 and find an appropriate treasure type that way.
Hope that helps!

With a monster that isn’t in ACKS, the only step I’d add to the above is to ask “would it hoard high-value treasure, amass low-value coins, or only gather shiny things incidentally?”
ACKS offers different treasure types for each of these. So another good way to do a conversion is to find an ACKS monster whose XP values are similar to the one you want to convert and whose treasure-gathering behavior seems similar, and then use its treasure type.

This should help a little to start with:
D&D Treasure Type (Moldvay) → Labyrinth Lord Hoard Class
A → XXII
B → XXI
C → XX
D → XIX
E → XVIII
F → XVII
G → XVI
H → XV
I → XIV
J → XIII
K → XII
L → XI
M → X
N → IX
O → VIII
P → I
Q → II
R → III
S → IV
T → V
U → VI
V → VII

xp x 4, and decide whether “…it hoard high-value treasure, amass low-value coins, or only gather shiny things incidentally?”
Easy peazy!
