Any especially interesting news from 06/09 Chat of Kings?

I couldn’t make today’s Chat of Kings. Any highlights?

alex had some technical difficulties, but we managed to get it working between google hangouts and discord.

secrets of the nethercity and capital of the borderlands are looking goooood

there was a brief discussion on what the next kickstarter should be. ideas floated were auran empire setting (although that might go to the patreon), a cyberpunk game, or possibly some kind of ACKs 2e.

Thanks for the update. Do you know if the thinking on the cyberpunk game was to have the mechanics based on B/X and compatible with ACKS? If that’s the case then I think it might be better to do the cyberpunk game first, then use any lessons learned from that for ACKS 2e.

I can't speak for Alex, but I believe his ideas revolve around using similar dice IE: a d20 to resolve attack rolls, but beyond that it seems like it will diverge. he's waxed about what his cyberpunk game would look like from time to time in the chat of kings and on the discord.

The cyberpunk game would be d20-based but probably not directly compatible with ACKS, though closely related.

The current intent is to use a Lifeblood/Grit hp system where most attacks just "threaten" a target and erode Grit, and only "direct hits" deal Lifeblood damage.

Ability scores are fine-tuned for the genre - the current slate is Strength, Edge, Reflexes, Intelligence, Aptitude, Luck ("SERIAL Numbers" because I'm a dork).

Classes have an attack throw, defense bonus, and also a skilled and unskilled proficiency throw. These increase at different rates depending on the class. For instance, Killers (fighter equivalent) increase in attack throw and defense bonus by 2 points per 3 levels, but in skilled proficiencies at just 1 point per 3 levels and unskilled at 1 point per 4 levels. Fixers advance in attack, defense, and skilled proficiencies at 1 point per 2 levels and in unskilled at 1 point per 3 levels. Hackers advance in skilled proficiencies at 2 points per 3 levels, defense at 1 point per 2 levels, attack at 1 point per 3 levels, and unskilled at 1 point per 4 levels. And so on. (All TBD/still being playtested).

I infer that there are  two categories of proficiency with skills, and that these progress with level instead of allocation of skill points or proficiency slots. Are skills set at character creation only?

At present, you get a set at character creation and then can gain new skills later. This does create the anomaly that you can go from 0 to hero in a skill by taking it at 9th level, etc. Still working it all out!
